OUR TOURS AND ROUTES
throughout Dumfries and Galloway, south west Scotland.

This year we have updated and extended our Tour and Route information and selection system. To allow you to home in on the various types of cycling tours available and other breaks you might wish to consider, the list below shows different break durations, different daily or average mileages and others.

All our routes and tours include accommodation provision. The Prices page gives options as to standard of accommodation, i.e. B&B/Guest House, Small Hotel or Quality Hotel. Hostel prices are provided on request. Routes are devised so that at the end of the day your overnight stop is in or near a village or small town where other services are available, e.g. shops, restaurants etc.

Route Distances and Difficulty

All our routes listed include the cycling distance covered either per day or an average if a longer tour. Within the Country Roads cycling category, we have the following distance divisions

Up to 15 miles (25km) per day - for cyclists who wish a little cycling each day but also experience the countryside, coast, beauty spots or visitor attractions of the area.
16 miles to 25 miles (40km) per day - a reasonable amount of cycling with time to stop and look around as you wish.
26 to 40 miles (65km) per day - allows you to see a good part of the area, still with time for a stop or two.
Over 40 miles per day - for fairly fit and seasoned cyclists with most of your day cycling.

If selecting a preferred cycling distance please bear in mind the extra difficulty if you do not require our luggage transfer service. You can of course prefer to be based at one or two locations and do round trip cycle routes which only requires minimal if any luggage transfer.

Each tour is also categorised according to difficulty i.e.

Easy - undemanding route suitable for novice cyclists with reasonable fitness.
Moderate - some hilly parts but shouldn't present a problem if reasonably fit.
Strenuous - Suitable for fit cyclists due to the distance covered and a few hills along the way.

Terrain

Dumfries and Galloway region is an ideal location for enjoying a cycling holiday. The terrain is not as steep as the Scottish Highlands and therefore more suited to cycling, indeed along much of the 200 miles of coast, the many peaceful roads are relatively flat. The overall terrain can   be described as being mainly rolling countryside with flat areas near the coast and steeper areas in the hills and glens on the higher ground - indeed Scotland in miniature.

To make your self led tour as easy to follow as possible, individual day itinerary information and maps are prepared for your tour. These are supplied at the welcome meeting when the tour is explained. To see an example of the style of route information provided, i.e. CD1 "Roon the Loch". CLICK HERE
