Beginners Mountain Biking Break – 2 Days MTB2R
Want to try mountain biking for the first time? Then this is the perfect 2 day break for you. By the end of the weekend you will be able to call yourself a mountain biker. We'll start off at Glentrool, also known as Scotland in miniature, it's one of the 7Stanes centres. We'll look at your bike setup and move on to cover all the fundamentals of mountain biking which are: body position, braking safely and effectively, gear selection, steering and cornering, body movement, choosing a safe and effective line, climbing and descending. At all times you will be learning in a safe environment, with one of our (SMBLA) leaders who will also be a BASP qualified first aider. There is also plenty of time to ask questions, for example how does this mountain bike differ from my commuter bike? Or what should I look for when buying a mountain bike? |

For those who have mountain biked before - 2 Days.
Two days is a great amount of time to sample some of Scotland’s best mountain biking, and we'll get you to the best spots with one of our local mountain bike coaches. On day one we will ride at the 7Stanes Kirroughtree - famed for its flowing singletrack. We will spend time working on mountain biking skills and confidence. The skills include track stand, ratcheting, manuals, wheelies, drop offs, rear wheel lift, bunny hop, pumping and cornering. If you don’t fancy doing one or some of these skills then don’t be put off, it is your holiday! We can tailor the session as well if there is a skill in particular you want to learn. If you want, we can also look at trail side mechanics; sometimes an area people dread but this session will make fixing bikes easy, when you have the knowhow. The next day we will head off to ride a local natural trail, which means there are no way markers. Local trails in the area are very varied from big views, fast single track to technical descents. So we will have a chat on day one about what sort of thing you want to ride tomorrow. If natural riding isn’t your thing or you want to do another trail centre then we can do that as well. |
